Can
I apply Micro-Swirl edging to part of my shield?
Generally its best if the edging goes completely around the shield.
You can stop a few inches from the bottom without effecting performance
but the application does not look finished.
How much edging
do I need?
The best way to check for correct edging lengths is to use a string
or tape along the outside of the shield. Since factory specifications
vary its better if you measure. After measuring, round up to the
nearest foot or ½ foot *. It is usually best both from an esthetic
and performance standpoint to have the edging go completely around
the shield. You can also use the Application
Guide...this guide is compiled from customer feed back and
may not be accurate. To ensure correct length, please measure
your shield. Saeng/TA cannot be held responsible for incorrect
measurements. *Minimum order is 3 feet. Edging and tape-on Trim
are available in short lengths... but restrictions apply. Call
for details
Do you Guarantee
Micro-Swirl Edging?
Yes, however because of variables such angle-of-attack, shield
and rider height, helmet-to-shield distance, etc. we cannot recommend
this product for all applications. Please refer to our Application
Guide.
Can you make the
edging clear?
No. Soft flexible clear materials are subject to cracking and
discoloration from UV radiation. They also contain elastomers
that migrate and damaging polycarbonate shields (the polycarb
sheet manufactures do not recommend using clear suction cups on
their products such as the ones supplied with radar detectors).
The special elastomer used in Micro-Swirl edging is mostly used
in the aerospace industry. It is chemically compatible with all
shields, and is UV, oil and solvent resistant. It will not crack
or become brittle even at 30 below zero... close to indestructible.
How do I attach
Micro-Swirl edging?
Micro-Swirl Edging slips on and grips the windshields' outer edge.
This gripping action allows it to hold on even around complex
corners. Micro-Swirl Trim has the same primary generator but is
held on by a peel-n-stick tape backing. The trim can be attached
to a curved surface but must be laid down in a straight line (cannot
go around corners)
Where do I place
Micro-Swirl Edging?
Micro-Swirl Edging is used on most fairings and shields. This
edging is not generally used with Trim on the same shield however
many shields will use edging and have a Winglets or Wing-Tips
attached at the same time. Micro-Swirl Trim is used mostly on
our Winglets. It is also used on a few windshields that have beaded
edges or over a ¼" thickness.
